Kumamoto

Kumamoto Prefecture is home to Mount Aso, one of the world’s largest calderas, an active volcano surrounded by lush green pastures. Kumamoto is famous for “Kumamon,” a very popular local character, Kurokawa hot springs, and Kumamoto Castle, one of the three most famous castles in Japan. In terms of food culture, it is also famous for horse sashimi and mustard lotus root.
