Amakusa-Sable
Japanese notation "天草サブレ"
”Amakusa Sablet” with a picture of Amakusa Five Bridges on the package. This sable was first sold by ”Kumamoto Kabo” in 1966, the year the Amakusa Five Bridges were completed.
The Amakusa region was among the first to foster a culture of Western confectionery. Even the packaging of the sable has an atmosphere that evokes the history of trade.
The taste and shape have remained the same since its launch, so it has a classic, yet retro feel.
It is crispy and has a simple sweetness, just like a royal sable. Kumamoto Kabo’s website says that it is delicious with cream or chocolate, but I think it is a standard sable that can be enjoyed in many different arrangements. Of course, it is also delicious as it is.
