Hagi-no-Tsuki
Japanese notation "萩の月"
“Hagi-no-Tsuki” is a famous confectionary that is so famous that it is almost too famous. It is the signature product of “Kasho Sanzen” in Sendai City, Miyagi Prefecture, and is well known nationwide.
Why is it so famous? The reason seems to date back to the late 1970s.
At the time, when “Toa Domestic Airlines”, which had just opened an air route between Sendai and Fukuoka, was considering what snacks to offer on board, Confectionery Sanzen approached the airline to adopt their signature product, “Date Emaki,” but the airline decided to go with “Hagi-no-Tsuki. The airline decided to go with “Hagi-no-Tsuki” but the taste of the custard bun, which was new at the time, and its highly refined taste quickly became a hit among passengers, and it is said that “Hagi-no-Tsuki” is the best souvenir from Sendai” became well known throughout the country.
“Hagi-no-Tsuki” was also praised by Yumi Matsutoya in a radio program and appeared in a manga by Fujio Akatsuka, and “Hagi-no-Tsuki” became a famous confectionary loved by celebrities.
I personally like the egginess of this custard cream tremendously. There are many sweets with a similar concept, but I feel that this cream feeling is not easily reproduced.
I personally recommend eating it chilled in the refrigerator with a cup of black coffee.
