Miyako-manju

Traditional savory sweet bun, popular in Mie area

“Miyako Manju” made by “Tamagawa-ken” in Kuwana City, Mie Prefecture, is a traditional popular manju, sweet bun there. Black ssame is sprinkled on the surface and sweet red bean paste is filled inside.  Many confectioners in Mie Prefecture make this type of manju, which is often used for general gifts and Buddhist rituals.

The letter “Miyako” is printed on the package. In this way, one kanji character drawn in black ink on Japanese paper completes package design.

Sprinkling abundant black sesame seeds on the baked brown dough is its characteristic, and immediately smell the savory.

The strained bean paste inside is light texture and is pale color.

The sesame aroma, the light sweetness of strained bean paste, and the simple sweetness of manju dough, they are well-balanced, classic taste. It is no wonder it has been popular for so long.
