Ichiroku-Tarte

Japanese notation "一六タルト"
”Ichiroku-Tart” is a sponge cake dough roll filled with Koshian (sweet bean paste) and infused with yuzu (a type of citrus fruit). It is made by Ichiroku Honpo in Ehime Prefecture, and is a nationally famous Japanese confectionery.
The sweet sweet bean paste is rolled up in a cute spiral shape. The history of “Ichiroku-Tart” dates back to the Edo period (1603-1867), when Matsudaira Sadayuki was impressed by a cake roll with jam he came across while working as a trader in Nagasaki, and brought it back to Matsuyama where he invented it.
The Japanese paper package clearly states that it is made with yuzu from Ehime Prefecture.
The yuzu-flavored yokan that is beautifully wrapped around the roll cake is a great idea, although it must have been conceived at the time.
The yuzu-flavored yokan wrapped in a cake-like sponge dough is lightly sweet and exquisite. The story of how it was born is also interesting, and it is truly a product with a history.
