The northern part of Tottori Prefecture widely faces the Sea of Japan and has a coastline of white sand, including the Tottori Sand Dunes. Despite the mountainous terrain, plains are formed in the basin of three rivers, and Tottori, Kurayoshi, and Yonago cities have developed as the central cities in the basin. The climate is comparatively mild, with a clear seasonal transition from spring to autumn with many sunny days and some snowfall in winter.
