Kagoshima Prefecture, located at the southernmost tip of Kyushu, is blessed with magnificent natural features such as Sakurajima, one of the world’s most active volcanoes, and Yakushima, a famous World Heritage site. There is a space center on Tanegashima Island, and the historical figure “Takamori Saigo,” a native of Kagoshima, is still popular among many people today.
