Fukuju-imo
Japanese notation "福寿芋"
Taneya is a famous Japanese confectionery store that has opened stores all over Japan, but its home base is Omi Hachiman City in Shiga Prefecture, and since its establishment in 1872, the confectionery shop has created many new wagashi in its long tradition. This time, I bought “Fukuju-imo”, a seasonal confectionery from Taneya.
The sweet potato sweets are made from Naruto-kintoki sweet potatoes, and the appearance of the sweets seen through the wrapping also brings out the “sweet potato” feeling.
It looks just like a slice of sweet potato. The outside, which looks like sweet potato skin, seems to be finished with a dusting of cinnamon powder, which gives it a very realistic color.
The sweet potato paste inside is mashed to the point that it leaves just the right amount of fruit, so you can directly taste the sweet potato.
The simple and elegant sweetness of “Naruto-kintoki” wrapped in manju skin can be tasted as it is, and it is like a high-quality Japanese sweet potato. The appearance of the sweet potato was also presented as it is, and the taste of the ingredients and the skill of the expert Japanese confectioner could be enjoyed.
