Harukoma
Japanese notation "春駒"
I bought “Harukoma” by Akashiya of Kagoshima Prefecture, which is also famous for “Karukan“. It is a stick-like confectionary wrapped in a cylindrical package. It is said that it has been a familiar confectionery in Kagoshima for a long time, so much so that there is no one who does not know about it.
It is wrapped in wrapping paper that resembles bamboo bark, and the label has a unique retro design.
The entire package is wrapped in plastic. It looks like a stick of yokan (sweet bean paste), but what kind of texture does it have?
Even when the vinyl is removed, it still looks shiny and wrapped in vinyl.
It is made by steaming and kneading sugar, azuki beans, rice flour, and rice cake flour, and has a strange texture that is different from that of Yokan or Uiro. It has a unique stickiness and elasticity.
It is resilient, yet moderately crisp, with a slightly sweet azuki bean flavor that lingers in the mouth. This confectionary has been loved by Kagoshima people for a long time, and once you try it, you will surely become addicted to the taste.
