Kasta-don
Japanese notation "かすたどん"
A sweet treat made by wrapping a custard cream made with eggs from Kagoshima prefecture in sponge cake-like dough. The moist dough contains a slightly sweet custard cream that goes well with coffee. By the way, the “circle with a cross” mark on the packaging is said to be the emblem of the Shimadzu family, the lords of the Satsuma domain.
“Does the “don” in “Kasta-don” refer to Saigo-don? If so, the naming also has a Kagoshima feel to it.”
Opened it, a round sponge cake-like manju came out. It looks similar to “Hagi no Tsuki,” a famous sweet from Sendai, Miyagi Prefecture, but custard manju like this are common in various regions.
There is plenty of custard cream inside. The sponge cake is fluffy and delicate.
The moist dough has a slightly sweet custard cream that goes well with coffee. It’s a sweet that resembles Sendai’s famous confection “Hagi no Tsuki” in Miyagi Prefecture, but the custard cream feels thick and not too sweet. I personally like these.
