Jhōkiya Baked Doughnut

Plain sweet with certain egg flavor and fluffy baked doughnut

“Jhōkiya Baked Doughnut” made by Satsuma Steam Kiya in Kagoshima Prefecture, is a doughut.  Jhōkiya is a well-known local confectioner and they also produces Karukan and Kastadon custard buns, which are traditional confections of the Southern Kyushu region.

This is a non fried doughnut in deep oil.

The dough is baked using fresh eggs so that the surface is light and fluffy like a cake.

Looking at the cross section of the sponge dough, it is moist and beautifully baked.

It has a delicious rustic sweetness with a strong egg flavor. This is certainly a doughnut giving us an idea of the Japanese concept and it fits so well.
