Cheese Manju (Okashi-no-Maeda)
Japanese notation "チーズ饅頭(お菓子のマエダ)"
“Cheese Manju” have already become a standard souvenir of Miyazaki. This time, we would like to introduce the cheese buns from “Okashi-no-Maeda”.
Cheese Manju are filled with fresh cheese, which is unique to Miyazaki, and the ones from “Okashi-no-Maeda” are characterized by the coconut in the manju skin, which gives them a cookie-like texture.
The texture is browned and crispy on the outside. It looks like a puffy cookie.
There is fresh cheese inside as is, somewhere between cream cheese and mozzarella cheese.
The manju crust has a biscuity feel with coconut and the fresh cheese is a perfect balance of the two.
The cheese is slightly salty but slightly sweet and creamy. It is surprising that cheese goes so well as manju bean paste.
