Daisen Blueberry Cake
Japanese notation "大山ブルーベリーケーキ"
“Daisen Blueberry Cake” made by Bryan Tech Co. in Yonago City, Tottori Prefecture, is a mini-sized cake made with plenty of blueberries from Oku Daisen in Tottori Prefecture.
The sleekly designed packaging appears to contain square-shaped miniature cakes.
Upon opening the package, the visual is a bit of a surprise: it is pitch black. It seems that “edible activated charcoal” is kneaded into the cake batter, resulting in such a pitch-black cake batter. It looks a bit like a square lump of pitch black, which does not look like a sweet.
When split it in half, I found a lot of blueberry jam inside. The black cake batter and the deep purple jam, I have never seen such a chic shade of pastry, cool.
I was even more surprised when I ate it. It was refreshingly sweet, but the blueberry jam had a great presence. I could not detect any fruity flavor from its appearance, but one bite and the sweetness of the fresh fruit spreads out. Although it looks pitch black, the deep sweet and sour taste and moist cake batter make it a high-quality fruitcake.
