Inochi Winter Grapes

Aomori Prefecture isn't just famous for apples but also a major grape producer.

“Winter Grape” flavor is one of the series of the popular “Inochi” custard cake series made by Ragueneau in Aomori Prefecture.

Speaking of Ragueneau, apple-based sweets are famous and this is a custard-filled manju, a sweet bun filled with grape jelly inside. Incidentally, the grapes used are the “Stuben” variety, originated in New York, USA, and they’re also quite well-known as a specialty product of Aomori Prefecture.

The castella sponge has a grape-like hue. Ragueneau’s “Inochi series” matches the castella sponge color to each flavor.  It looks quite colorful through their different series.

The custard cream contains grape jelly.

Knowing this custard bun, Aomori Prefecture is famous not only for apples but also for grapes. The “Stuben” variety has its high sugar content and pleasant aroma, is said to have great potential as a wine grape as well.
