Peanuts Pie

A classic peanut-flavored, similar category of “red bean paste pie”

“Peanuts Pie” made by Nagomi no Komeya in Narita City, Chiba Prefecture, is a version of ‘Peanuts Monaka’, bean-jam filled wafer, a popular souvenir unique to Chiba, in which the monaka dough is replaced with a pie crust. The unique package features a peanut character, representative souvenir of Chiba, a specialty peanut producing region.

Peanuts Monaka’ has a history of more than 20 years and is now a standard souvenir there. Even if it is made with pie crust instead of monaka dough, it seems to be a perfect match for peanuts.

This rounded pie has a lovely shape as if resemble the shape of a peanut.

Coarsely ground peanuts paste is filled in and the peanut texure still remains there.  It feels like a similar approach of anko pie, red bean pie.

The savory peanuts and the simple sweetness of the white bean paste go well with the pie crust. Personally, I like this better than the monaka. It is a unique and cute snack that is very representative of Chiba, using specialty of peanuts.
