Shio-mame
Japanese notation "塩豆"
“Shio-mame” made by Fujita Cherry Bean Sohonten is another line-ups of the famous “Lucky Cherry Bean” series in Shimabara City, Nagasaki Prefecture.
Starting with “Lucky Cherry Bean” which is deep-fried fresh fava beans and flavored with ginger, and comes “Uni-mame” and “Curry mame” next. They are also delicious, and I love this series, and this “Salted Beans” seems to be seasoned simply with salt.
Natural salt unique to the Goto Islands, called “Toppen salt” is used for this.
Toppen salt is made by pumping seawater from Kami-Goto Island in the Goto Archipelago of Nagasaki Prefecture and dryed it under the sun and sea breeze, without using any firepower at all.
The Toppen salt sprinkled on the deep-fried crispy textured fava beans.
The flavor is light, yet firm, full-bodied and salty, with a mild sweetness and is very tasty. It has become my second favorite flavor among the Lucky Cherry Bean series. By the way, my favorite is “Uni-mame”.
