Uni-mame
Japanese notation "うに豆"
The “Uni-mame(Beans)” made by the Fujita Cherry Bean General Store in Shimabara City, Nagasaki Prefecture, is a sea urchin-flavored version of the “Lucky Cherry Beans” that has been popular in Nagasaki for over 100 years. The “Lucky Cherry Beans” were very tasty, so I was curious what the “Uni-mame(Beans)” tasted like, so I bought some.
The large “Uni-mame” sign in the confectionery corner is impressive.
The fried fava beans are completely “sea urchin” in color, but their crispy texture clearly indicates that they are from the “Lucky Cherry Beans” series.
It is made simply by frying fava beans, but the aroma of sea urchin and fava beans wafts through the air.
One piece is small like this, but it is well seasoned.
Amazing taste! I have an image that people living in Nagasaki drink a lot of alcohol, but I am convinced that if there is a snack with such a high degree of perfection, it might be best to have this “Uni-mame” with beer, shochu, or other alcoholic beverages when eating it. If you have someone close to you who likes to drink, this will definitely be a gift that they will appreciate.
