Kindai Financier

A financier filled with key words to describe Kinki University.

The Kindai Financier is a very unique baked pastry made in the shape of tuna using “Kindai Mikan”, oranges grown at Kinki University’s farm in Arita-gun, Wakayama Prefecture.

To begin with, Wakayama Prefecture is famous for mandarin oranges.  The Kinki University Farm grows more than 200 varieties of citrus, and they are also engaged in research on the preservation of citrus strains and their medicinal uses to find their functions. The “Kindai Mikan” developed in this context is an orange variety of the Miyagawa Early-Stage and Hayashi Onshu, which are grown without using any chemical fertilizers.

Why Tuna shape?  Many people may wonder.  The answer is the University is also famous for the “Kindai Tuna” bluefin tuna that the Fisheries Laboratory at the University has succeeded in cultivating. The sweet might represents such succession.  They launced the study in 1970 and accomplished cultivation completely.  It is an amazing technology that is attracting attention from all over the world.

Certainly, it is an amazing feat to succeed in cultivating tuna that can swim a great distance at a great speed.
