Kochi-no-Dorayaki (John Manjiro pumpkin)

Manjiro pumpkin bean paste is superbly delicious.

“Kochi-no-Dorayaki ( John Manjiro pumpkin)” produced by Works Mirai Kochi in Kochi Prefecture, is a bean jam filled pancake. Guessing “Manjiro” refers to “John Manjiro” a historical figure from Tosa, Kochi, and the dorayaki’s filling is made from “Manjiro kabocha” ,pumpkin, hence the name.

Manjiro pumpkins have an oval shape like a rugby ball, taste like chestnuts, and have a sticky texture. It includes high beta-carotene and sweetness.  Thus it is an ideal pumpkin for making sweets.

It is like a flat dorayaki, but the crust is quite large.

A kabocha bean paste is filled in the crust. The Manjiro pumpkin paste is a beautiful transparent orange color.

Very tasty! The sweetness of the Manjiro pumpkin combined with the rustic sweetness of the pancake creates a very well-balanced natural sweetness. The amount of the paste and the thickness of the dorayaki crust are in perfect balance, making it a perfect finish.
