Neo Toast

This is the local bread in Iwate that everyone knows!

Shiraishi Bakery is a famous bakery in the Tohoku area, headquartered in Morioka City, Iwate Prefecture. We surely find their products while we go to supermarkets and convenience stores in the Tohoku area.

The “Neo Toast” made by them is probably a familiar bread locally in Iwate Prefecture. It is a sweet bread, a loaf shaping like maountain, sandwiching margarine and coating with sugar margarine on the surface.  It is said that this was created in the 1950s when the bakery workers ate it as their a nighttime snack.

The Tohoku area has an image of producing many local breads that are arranged from loaf of bread, such as  “English Toast” by made by Kudo Bakery in Aomori Prefecture and “Avec Toast” made by Takeya Bakery in Akita Prefecture, and this “Neo Toast” should be familiar for the local people.

Margarine is sandwiched in between thinly sliced bread and it is coated with sugar margarine on the surface. So it is a two-layer margarine sandwich.

The taste of sugar margarine is simple and nostalgic. It is a local sweet bread there that has been well-known for many years.
