Avec Toast” made by Takeya Bakery in Akita Prefecture is a local bread that is called the soul food of Akita Prefecture.I have had the “Caramel & Whip” flavor before, and this time I was able to get the “Jam & Margarine” flavor, which is the original flavor of “Avec Toast”.

The light blue and pink hues of the packaging give it a retro feel.As it is also described as a very long-selling product, this sweet bread has been popular for a long time, but we could not find a definite year when it was first sold. It was probably sold in the 1970s and 1980s.

It looks like four slices of bread, but it contains two thin bread sandwiches.

Inside, strawberry jam and margarine are spread side by side. The word “avec” itself is derived from the French word “avec” meaning “with”. The two flavors are placed side by side, hence the name “avec”.
