Otona-na Lemon Cake

This “Otona-na Lemon Cake” is made by Tobishima Citrus Studio, a brand from Hatsukaichi, Hiroshima Prefecture. The area is famous for growing lemons, and this brand has been operating since 2013 under the motto “Island revitalization with love and lemons”.

The side of the package also clearly states “Love and Lemons for Shimaokoshi”. It is a unique catchphrase to promote Hiroshima lemons. But what makes it an “Otona-na (mature)” lemon cake?

The cake is a colon-shaped cake. It is just like the shape of a lemon fruit.

Although it looks like a cross section of standard cake batter, it has a mellow lemon aroma.

That’s also why the dough seems to be infused with a generous amount of lemon liqueur. This seems to be the reason for the “Otona-na (mature)” name of the product. It is surprising that just adding lemon liqueur makes such a difference in the overall result.
