Atsuta-no-Mori
Japanese notation "あつたの杜(亀屋芳広)"
Kameya Yoshihiro, which has many stores in and around Aichi Prefecture, makes “Atsuta-no-Mori,” a confectionary made of green tea sponge cake with red bean paste sandwiched in between. Many of Kameya Yoshihiro’s confections are labeled “Owari sweets” and are unique and original to the Nagoya area.
Incidentally, “Atsuta-no-Mori” is sometimes called Atsuta Shrine, where the Kusanagi no Mutsurugi, one of the three sacred weapons, is located, a name unique to the Nagoya area.
The sponge is a beautiful green tea color, like dorayaki, but the crust is extremely thick and fluffy.
The matcha sponge is incredibly thick, as seen from the side. The texture is very high because the dough is steamed using matcha green tea from Nishio City, Aichi Prefecture, which is also famous for producing matcha green tea.
The aroma of green tea can be smelled from the dough. The azuki bean paste inside is also rich, but its light color makes it refreshing.
The aroma of matcha green tea and the light sweetness of azuki red bean paste are exquisite. Overall, the delicate taste makes it an elegant Japanese confectionery.
