Hakata-Tōrimon
Japanese notation "博多通りもん"
“Hakata-Tōrimon” has become the most well-known souvenir of Fukuoka, and I received it again from a colleague who had returned from a business trip. It is now something I receive as a souvenir once or twice a year.
The manju, which is called “Hakata Western Wagashi,” is made with plenty of cream, butter, and other ingredients.
The outer manju skin is thinly made and the bean paste inside is moist.
The most distinctive feature of “Hakata-Tōrimon” is this red bean paste. The transparent yellowish red bean paste has its own unique flavor, just like the identity of the “Hakata Western Wagashi”. Sometimes it even tastes like custard cream. The bean paste is full of originality, with a base of white kidney beans and plenty of high-quality butter, cream, and eggs.
Stable taste. It is a Western-style manjuu that seems to project the unique culture of Fukuoka. This one-of-a-kind flavor may be the reason for its popularity.
