Ryoma ga yuku

土佐銘菓 竜馬がゆく

Milk manju that makes you feel like Ryoma Sakamoto

I bought a Tosa famous confectionery “Ryoma ga yuku” made by “Confectionery Aoyagi” in Kochi Prefecture. This manjuu is named after Ryotaro Shiba’s “Ryoma ga yuku,” a historical novel that needs no explanation. It seems that Aoyagi makes many confections associated with the Tosa Clan.

Perhaps inspired by the concept of Sakamoto Ryoma, these manju are made with an abundance of milk and have a slightly Western flavor. The manju is a blend of Japanese and Western styles, and it seems to show a will to “respond to Western countries in the Japanese style”.

The milk flavor and the richness of the egg yolk are well balanced and delicious. There is also a slight taste of chestnuts.

The red bean paste is rich, but not too sweet, and has a refined taste.

Despite the intense history of the end of the Edo period, the manju was moist and elegant.
