Amamitsuki
Japanese notation "天満月(あまみつき)"
I bought “Amamitsuki” made by Kamejirushi, which has its main store in Mito City, Ibaraki Prefecture. The square box with the moon on it has a poem written on it.
『The moon is like an egg in the clear night sky.』
The last phrase ends with the name of the manju. The word “tamago(egg)” seems to have something to do with the taste.
When I took it out of the box, I found a manjuu of the same color as the package.
The brown skin smells like chocolate dough. It is quite substantial for its size.
It is sprinkled with gold leaf. Gorgeous.
I saw bright yellow bean paste. It is yolk bean paste that looks like the moon. The contrast between the chocolate-colored skin and the yolk bean paste is vivid.
The skin has a strong chocolate flavor, and the yolk bean paste inside has a custard-like flavor, so although it is a manju, it tastes similar to a Western-style confection.
