Tosa-24mangoku
Japanese notation "土佐二十四万石"
I bought a manju “Tosa Nijushimangoku” made by Nishikawa-ya Roho to commemorate the 300th anniversary of its establishment. Nishikawa-ya was founded in the first year of the Genroku era (1688-1704), and is one of the oldest and most famous confectionery shops in Kochi Prefecture. It is also famous in Kochi Prefecture as a confectionery shop that makes that super hard confectionery “Kempi“.
The package also reads “Founded in the first year of Genroku” and the name Nishikawa-ya is written on the package. The package also features a brushstroke illustration of Kochi Castle, giving the package a dignified appearance.
Manjuu with a branding iron stamped on the top. A manju with a family crest stamped on it looks luxurious.
Inside is a sparkling, fine-grained white bean paste with a silky texture. The manju skin is firm and thick.
You can feel the work of a traditional, long-established shop. The taste is simple but elegant with the sweetness of the white bean paste, and the manju skin is exquisitely delicious. It was a manjyu of the feeling that a long-established shop’s manjyu is here to stay.
