An orginal Japanese confectionery, coexisting a Kyoto-like tradition and modern culture

“Miyabi-guruma” is made by Seikan-in, a confectioner locates in Shimogyo-ku, Kyoto. Their concept is to “combine the traditions of Kyoto with the today’s creativity” and this is their standard and signature product.

The name of the confection means an ox cart used by the imperial family and aristocrats during the Heian period (794-1192), and the shape of this confectionery is a motif of the wheels of the ox cart.

It is made of silky textured bean paste pressed into a wheel pattern.

This bean paste is said to be one of the yolk bean paste called “Kimi Habutae Shigure An”, which is made from combined the yolk, taken out of boiled egg, with white bean paste, kneaded them together then back-foaming it many times.  There are two layers of chestnut paste and azuki red bean paste.

The texture is flaky yet moist, and it tastes elegantly sweet. It is their Kyoto-like representative confectionary. It coexists a tranditional Japanese atmosphere and a modern concept.
