“Hakone no Saka” , meaning a Slope of Hakone, made by Kotohogi no Ki in Odawara City, Kanagawa Prefecture, is a gateau chocolat that can be enjoyed in many variations.  The “Shonan Gold” is one of the series and the flavor is quite unique to Kanagawa.

“Shonan Gold” is a relatively new citrus variety developed by Kanagawa Prefecture and has been shipped since 2006. It is still difficult to obtain it  outside of Kanagawa Prefecture, and is said to be a high quality citrus with a gorgeous aroma and high sugar content.

Gâteau chocolat made with an abundance of such Shonan gold, and the appearance is bright orange.  Such bright orange looks unique for a gateau chocolat.

The moist yet dense texture of the gateau chocolat is enhanced by a citrusy aroma.

The Gateau chocolat has a fresh citrus aroma that spreads out and has a rich texture.  Such texture is not often found in citrus-based pastries, so it is a fresh experience.  The regular item is also recommended.
