Kuri Yubeshi

Yubeshi with chestnuts, not walnuts, made by a famous yubeshi store in Tohoku.

“Kuri Yubeshi”, made by Gansendo, who locates in Miyagi Prefecture and is famous for their yubeshi in the Tohoku region, is a sweet chestnut steamed dumpling. There is another kind of yubeshi they make,  which is called Walnut yubeshi.   It is available to buy only from September to May.

Yubeshi is a traditional Japanese sweet, a sweet steamed dumpling, and yubeshi included walnuts is more common in the Tohoku region while yuzu-flavoured yubeshi is general in western Japan.

“Kurumi Yubeshi”, walnut yubeshi is their most representative confectionaery and including chestnuts in the yubeshi is indeed similar taste as the Kurumi Yubeshi.

The appearance looks the same as the “yubeshi” made by Gansendoh, and there are a lot of chestnuts kneaded into it.

It is a simple rice cake-like confection made of rice flour, starch syrup, and sugar. The transparent color is beautiful.

Although not as savory as  the one with walnuts, it is delicious with a soothing sweetness.
