Owari-Hoteno

Baked sweet bun with magwort, surprises with its originality and perfection.

”Owari Hoteno” made by Ohguchiya, who has a reputation for making traditional Japanese sweets in Konan City, Aichi Prefecture, is their original manju , sweet bun filled with white bean paste mixed with mugwort.

The confectionary name “Owari Hoteno” in chinese character is difficult to reatd at the first sight.  It seems to be named after an area “Owari,” where refers to the present western part of Aichi Prefecture, and the town of Hote in Konan City.

The brown sugar aroma can be smelled from the baked manju dough. The texture is lighter than the looks.

The bean paste inside is easily crumbled and the dough is crispy.

This slightly greenish red bean paste is just very distinctive. Besides mugwort, sesame and almond pudding are also kneaded in the paste.  This is ingenious, elegant sweetness and very high leveled completion.
