Usukawa-Imo-kin

Founded in Asakusa, Tokyo in 1886, Mangando’s “Imo-kin” is famous as a standard souvenir from Asakusa’s Nakamise-Street. There are many famous stores in Asakusa that make “Imo-kin” but Mangando is by far the most well-known as a long-established sweet potato confectioner.
While strolling around Asakusa while eating freshly made imo-kin is the best thing to do, some of them are packaged individually, making them perfect for souvenirs.
The surface has a thin crust with a crepe-like texture. It has a beautiful cubic shape with a solid weight. It is a familiar traditional form.
Looking at the cross section, you can see the sweet potato under the thin skin. The color of the sweet potato is the same as that of the ingredients, and it is a transparent golden color.
“Imo-kin” is a concentrated sweet potato that is like eating a sweet potato as it is. The natural sweetness of the sweet potato is delicious. As a traditional confectionary that reflects the history of Asakusa, it will continue to be a staple souvenir for many years to come.
