Tago-no-Tsuki

Luxurious monaka with rich azuki bean paste and voluminous gyuhi

I bought ”Tago-no-tsuki” a famous confectionery from Shizuoka Prefecture, which was established in 1952 and is famous for its wrapping paper, on which Saneatsu Mushanokoji wrote “The moon is beautiful and children will be pleased with the moon of Tago-no-tsuki”.

The origin of the name “Tago-no-Tsuki” is a reference to the beauty of the moon reflected in the Numa River flowing through Tago-no-Ura. The square-shaped monaka is decorated with a moon in the center, and is quite heavy in the hand.

The sweetness of the azuki red bean paste, which can only be found in long-established stores, and the voluminous Gyuhi(race cake) are luxurious and delicious. The taste and volume of the confectionery are convincing, and the way it is laid out in the box is perfect for an elegant gift.
