Kamome-no-Tamago
Japanese notation "かもめの玉子"
The “Kamome-no-Tamago (Seagull’s Egg)” made by “Saito Seika” in Ofunato City, Iwate Prefecture, is a nationally known confectionary representing Iwate Prefecture.
The idea was inspired by the sight of seagulls flying over the sea to express the charm of Sanriku, a tourist destination with beautiful seas.
As the product name suggests, it is shaped like a seagull’s egg. The white chocolate coating looks like a white shell.
The outside is sponge cake dough and the inside is filled with yellowish bean paste, which beautifully reproduces the white and yolk of an egg.
It is no wonder that it has become one of Iwate Prefecture’s most popular products. If you have not had it yet, please find it and try it.
