Koedo Mont Blanc
Japanese notation "小江戸もんぶらん"
Kawagoe City in Saitama Prefecture is called “Small Edo Kawagoe” and is a town full of emotion with old-fashioned streets that feel like Edo, shrines and temples that boast hundreds of years of tradition, and long-established stores. Let’s try “Koedo Mont Blanc” made by “Kameya” which has a history of more than 200 years since its establishment in 1783 in Kawagoe City.
On the package is an illustration of the “Bell of time,” a symbol of Kawagoe’s castle town atmosphere. The bell was built by the lord of the Kawagoe domain in the early Edo period (1603-1868), and the time was told by ringing the bell. Even today, the bell rings four times a day to tell the time.
The pastry is shaped like a petite cupcake. It is brown in color compared to a typical Mont Blanc.
The whole dough has a moist yet silky mousse-like texture. In the middle, there are chestnut nuts and the aroma of chestnuts wafts through the air.
The outer Mont Blanc dough, which crumbles into a hollowness, and the chestnuts soaked in honey spread in the mouth. The light brown flavor of the Mont Blanc dough is distinctive, and it seems to be made with a Japanese confectionery-like flavor.
