Shiro-ebi-Arare
Japanese notation "しろえびあられ"
“Shiroebi Arare” made by “Maruyone Seika” in Nanto City, Toyama Prefecture, is made from “Shiroebi Arare” (white shrimp), the “jewel of Toyama Bay”.
From spring to fall, white shrimp inhabit the undersea valleys of Toyama Bay, which are unique to the area and are shaped like giant earthenware jars called “Aigaime”. For this reason, the white shrimp fishery is only viable in Toyama Prefecture. The rare and beautifully pale transparent pink color of the white shrimp makes it a truly high quality seafood.
Marume Seika, a long-established rice cracker company based in Toyama, kneads a lot of white shrimp into its rice crackers, which is why they are able to do so.
Here is a special arare made of 100% domestic glutinous rice with no coloring agents. The pure white arare dough is mixed with white shrimp and baked beautifully.
The crispy, savory texture and flavor of the white shrimp also stand out. The simple yet elegant and luxurious taste of glutinous rice baked honestly, the seashore flavor of the white shrimp and the slight sweetness of the shrimp make this a delicious and exquisite rice cracker. Personally, I found it to be the perfect accompaniment to a beer snack.
