Nasu Trappist Galette
Japanese notation "那須トラピストガレット"
The “Nasu Trappist Galette” made at the Nasu Trappist Monastery in Nasu-gun, Tochigi Prefecture, has been produced for more than 50 years and is loved not only locally but also throughout Japan.
Anyway, the biggest point is that the sweets are handmade in a monastery, an amazing and wonderful setting.
It looks like a so-called Belgian waffle, but the texture of the dough is similar to that of a biscuit or cookie.
The crispy baked dough gives the impression of being carefully handmade with simple ingredients. They are made without using any additives, and the concept is to keep the same homemade pastries made in French households.
Butter, flour, and eggs give it a fluffy aroma, and the crispy texture is exquisite! It is a simple taste, but I was a bit impressed by its deliciousness. The “Nasu Trappist Galette” can be purchased at the church, and although the monastery has a solemn atmosphere, it is really wonderful that they are making such a gentle tasting pastry. It was a perfect souvenir from Nasu.
