Mini Kame Manju
Manju with a highly reproduced turtle form
Japanese notation "あんぱん饅頭(中島屋)"
I bought “Anpan-manju” made by Nakashimaya, a confectioner in Shuchi-gun, Shizuoka Prefecture. As the name “Anpanmandu” suggests, it is a confectionary that has the characteristics of both “anpan” and “manju”.
It is tall and round in shape. I am attracted by the crust that looks like bread dough baked to a golden brown.
The dough is the most attractive point. It is thick and has a texture that is somewhere between bread and manju dough.
The dough is still exquisitely delicious. The dough has a moist manju texture, and the sesame seeds on top add just the right amount of savory flavor.
