Kotora-yaki
Japanese notation "虎虎焼(ことらやき)"
“Toraya Uiro” is a long-established Japanese confectionery founded in 1923 in Miya, Ise City, Mie Prefecture. This time, I bought not their signature product “Uiro” but a bite-sized sponge cake called “Kotora-yaki”.
The illustrated tiger logo on the package is too cute. This indescribable expression is outstanding.
The one I bought this time costs 500 yen and contains about 20 pieces. There is also a “sachet size” that contains 10 pieces for 250 yen, but the scary thing about these bite-sized sponge cakes is that you can eat 10 pieces in no time at all.
Hmmm cute. What a cute posture as well as expression! Tigers are known for their ferociousness, but if a cute tiger like this were to appear, I would unintentionally hug it.
I like these bite-sized sponge cakes, which are often seen at festival stalls, because of their classic taste. I think this “Toratora-yaki” is a cute and impactful snack that would make a perfect souvenir of a ”Oise-mairi”.
