Otona-no-Momiji
Japanese notation "おとなのもみじ 抹茶とあん餅"
”Nishikido” has been operating in Matsubara-cho, Hiroshima City since 1951. It is a long-established confectionery shop that has been making Hiroshima’s famous confectionery “Momiji-manju” since almost the same time as its establishment. They make many kinds of momiji-manju, but this time I bought one called “Otona-no-Momiji (Adult Momiji-manju )”.
What exactly makes it an “adult” momiji manju?
When I opened the package, I found a dough mixed with matcha green tea and the shape of a so-called momiji manju, which I thought was nothing out of the ordinary so far,
The moment I tried to break it in half, the bean paste inside was chewy and stretchy like never before. It seems to be a mixture of sweet bean paste and rice cake.
It tastes slightly sweet and goes well with the matcha dough on the outside. There is a bit of bitterness, and it is like a momiji manjuu that has never existed before. It is indeed a momiji-manju with a slightly mature taste.
