Rahotsu-Manju

らほつ饅頭

"Rahotsu" refers to the rolling hair on the head of the Great Buddha

The “Rahotsu Manju” made by “Shogaku,” a new confectionery shop in Nara Prefecture, is called “Rahotsu,” referring to the right-curled hairstyle of the Great Buddha on his head.

Indeed, the shape resembles the curly hairstyle on the head of the Great Buddha. It is a round shape like a dumpling. It looks like a fried bun made of brown sugar batter and fried crispy.

The outer crust is fried to a crispy firmness, and the aroma of brown sugar spreads through the air, while the inside is filled with mashed red bean paste made from high quality Tokachi azuki beans.

The not-too-sweet red bean paste is well balanced, and the light texture and savory flavor are characteristic of this fried bun.
