Momiji manju(Fujiiya’s)
Japanese notation "もみじまんじゅう(藤い屋)"
One of Hiroshima’s most famous confections is the momiji manju. I have always been a big fan of momiji manju, too. This time, I would like to introduce “Fujiiya’s” Momiji-manju with tsubu-an filling. Fujiiya has a store near Itsukushima Shrine on Miyajima, and has been making momiji manju since its establishment in 1925.
There are many confectioners in Hiroshima Prefecture that make momiji manju, but Fujiiya’s momiji manju with sweet bean paste is my favorite.
Another interesting point is that each store has its own unique shape. I think Fujiiya’s momiji manju is round and thick.
This tsubu-an is superb. The tsubu-an enhances the perfection of Momiji-manju. It has a light yet strong flavor of Ogura, and is a perfect match with the soft and sweet Momiji-manju dough.
You will experience this transparency, or balanced sweetness. It is a taste of perfection that only a long-established restaurant can offer.
