Lemon (Tenmeidou)
Japanese notation "檸檬(天明堂)"
Manju “Lemon” by Tenmyodo, Kure City, Hiroshima Prefecture, is like a lemon version of “Onrai Mantou”. The package is impressive and has a nice design.
The package simply says “Lemon (檸檬)” in kanji (Chinese characters), but once again, it is a difficult kanji to read.
Hiroshima is very famous for growing lemons and is also famous for the name “Hiroshima Lemon”.
The manju is flat in shape and the dough is like a soft cookie dough.
When you break it open, you will find a jam-like bean paste inside. The aroma of lemon is faint, but I guess lemons also become this color when they are boiled down to a jam-like consistency. It is a sweet jam with a brownish consistency that is different from fresh lemon.
The jam inside the bean paste is sticky and goes well with the soft cookie dough. The subtle aroma of lemon and the texture of the rustic manju dough matched each other, and the taste was somewhat nostalgic.
