None manjuu

A Traditional mini manju derived from the name of a place in Aki Kochi.

Hamaguchi Fukugetsudo in Kochi City, Kochi Prefecture, is a very long-established Japanese confectionery with a history of over 140 years. Their representative confectionery, “None-manju,” a sweet bun has a long history and has even been presented to the Emperor Showa.

“None” of the confectionary comes from the name of a town that once existed in Aki County, Kochi Prefecture, in the area of present-day Toyo-cho. This area, locates a little north of Cape Muroto, has beautiful sandy beaches and a tropical atmosphere.

Two fingertip-sized buns are placed side by side in a package.

The buns looks rustic texure and made of simple ingredients.  Since one package includes two bite-sized pieces, it is just right volume.

It is a simple sweet bun.  The dough is scented with sakekasu (sake lees) and a refreshingly sweet red bean paste.

It is so refreshingly sweet that we could eat as many as we want having a cup of tea, and it is so simple and delicious.   It is understandable why it has been a favorite for so long.
