Nanban Orai

Almond flavor, raspberry jam, and originality in a petit cake.

“Nanban Orai” made by Sakaeya in Fukuoka Prefecture has been a well-known confectionary in Fukuoka for nearly 40 years since its release in 1984. It is a baked confectionary that is well-loved by local people as Sakaeya’s signature product.

It is a Petit cake made of almond flour, butter and eggs.  A picture of male foreigner is printed on the package as the icon and the man seems to be a trader from the time while the Nanban trade was conducted.

It has the texture of a pound cake wrapped in a thin pie crust.

It is well baked in brown around it and is moist inside.  The dough is bright yellow moistened with almond flour, eggs amd butter.

It includes raspberry jam at the buttom and the sweet and sour taste is well matched with the almond-flavored dough.  It has an original flavor, but at the same time it has the stability of a classic taste! It is so good and eveybody would love it.
