Ikko-kkō
Japanese notation "一〇香"
“Ikko-kkō” made by Mogi Ichimaruka Honke, a long-established confectionery established in Nagasaki Prefecture in 1844, is a very unique confectionery in its structure.
The package says “It is a Karakuri baked cake with a hollow inside”.
It looks just like an ordinary baked manju, but it feels very light and has a rough surface that reminds one of a “Pumice stone“.
When break it open and look inside, you will see that it is hollow.
There is nothing in it that is spectacular. It is interesting, like a magic trick, to see how it is made. It seems that skilled craftsmen’s skills are needed to realize this structure, and each piece is made by hand.
The inside of the dough is covered with a sticky, syrup-like honey.
It is like a manju skin with delicious honey. It is an interesting snack to give as a souvenir.
