Meidai-Bashō
Japanese notation "名代 芭蕉"
Another signature product of Osaka’s Tsurigane-ya Honpo, famous for its “Tsurigane-manju” is “Meidai-Bashō”. This is a very famous so-called “Banana manju”. At first, you will be surprised at its size.
It is a very large size for a single manju. Incidentally, the name comes from its shape that resembles a “banana leaf”.
“Bashō” is a banana plant in English.
The “BANANA” sponge cake dough is also surprising in its size and weight. It is so large that one piece is enough to fill you up.
When I cracked it open, I found a sweet bean paste with the aroma of bananas wafting through the air. It is a banana bean paste based on white bean paste made from Hokkaido beans.
Delicious, you will be amazed at the perfection. It is a perfect match with the surrounding sponge cake dough. This is a very satisfying dish as it is large and about the same size as an actual banana. It tasted like it would go well with a cup of black coffee.
