Tsurigane-manju

Castella manjuu in the shape of a hanging bell

“Tsurigane-manju” made by Tsurigane-ya Honpo, founded in 1900 in Naniwa-ku, Osaka, is a famous souvenir of visits to Shitennoji Temple.

In 1900, a large temple bell was dedicated to Shitennoji Temple and became popular as a motif to show the spirit of Osaka merchants. In commemoration of the dedication, manju in the shape of the temple bell were sold at the Shitennoji temple gate, and this was the beginning of “tsurigane manju”. Unfortunately, the temple bell was destroyed during World War II, but Tsurigane-manju is still loved by the people of Osaka.

The outside is made of dough that is kneaded with a unique balance of ingredients and left to rest for a day and a night.

The refreshing azuki red bean paste and the delicious sponge cake dough made this manju a standout.
