Kishū Ume Pan
Japanese notation "紀州うめパン"
The “Kishū Ume Pan” made by “Handmade Ume Bread Shop Pinocchio” in Wakayama City is a surprising combination of bread with plums inside, a unique concept that is typical of the “Ume Kingdom” of Wakayama in Kishū.
The stickers on the package read “Kuromame An” and “Nanko Ume”.
Upon opening the package, one can see that the top and bottom sides of the bread are baked to a golden brown, disk-shaped bread. The dough appears to be kneaded with “Ume Shiso” .
Ume plum seeds can be seen in the bean paste. Large black beans are also visible.
It really seems to contain large Nanko plums as it is. The red bean paste seems to be a moist bean paste, but it is made of black beans, which gives it a refreshing taste.
This is the first time I have tasted this flavor. The plum pulp had a firm sweet and sour taste, indicating that premium quality plums were used sparingly. It was a unique bread that can only be found in Kishū Wakayama.
