Ume-fuda
Japanese notation "梅札"
“Kishū Hosokawa” is a historic ume farm in Hidaka-gun, Wakayama Prefecture that has been in business since 1928. It is a long-established umeboshi (pickled plum) shop that has produced a variety of ume-related products over its long tradition, and what I bought this time was a unique concept of ume sweets called “Ume-fuda.
The package has a cute ume illustration. Wakayama Prefecture is the home of ume. Tanabe City and its northern neighbor Minabe Town alone produce nearly 50% of the nation’s ume.
It looks like a sheet of plum candy. It feels like a soft candy like “Hi-Chew” to the touch.
It is rectangular, about 2 cm x 1 cm, and quite thick. They do not use any chemical seasonings or synthetic coloring.
Incidentally, the website of “Kishu Hosokawa” shows that they have been researching the “ume” food from a scientific approach as well, and there are many interesting points. I got the impression that the company is a long-established business, and I could sense their sincere attitude to produce delicious and healthy products by combining long tradition and scientific approach.
